Baptism

Infants
The Church welcomes infants to Baptism based on the faith of the parent(s), who promise to raise the child Catholic.

Baptisms are celebrated most Sunday afternoons at 1:30 p.m. and occasionally at Sunday Mass. In accord with the recommendations of the diocese, Baptism is not celebrated during Lent.

Parents must be registered parishioners of St. John Neumann Parish. They are asked to contact the parish office about three months before the birth of the child to schedule an interview with one of the priests and to register to attend a baptism information session. Sessions are usually held on the second Sunday of each month, 12:00-1:30 p.m. It is a good idea to arrange both the interview and the information session during pregnancy.

Children and Adults
The Church welcomes school-age children, teens and adults for Baptism through R.C.I.A. (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults). These special areas of initiation into the Catholic Church are explained in the Education section of this publication. Programs are available in both English and Spanish.

Confirmation

The Sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for full initiation into the Catholic Church. Confirmation preparation is integrated into the High School youth ministry program through discovery, discipleship and service.

Catholic adults over the age of 18 who regularly practice their faith but have never been confirmed, are invited to prepare for the celebration of the sacrament of Confirmation through a special form of adult preparation, the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. Adults who have been baptized in another Christian tradition are invited to be confirmed in the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil, following participation in weekly R.C.I.A. sessions.

Eucharist

Opportunities to celebrate Eucharist are available daily and on weekends. Communion is available to the sick and shut-ins of the parish by contacting the parish office.

Reconciliation

Priests are available for Reconciliation from 4:00 to 4:45 p.m. on Saturdays and by appointment. Lenten and Advent Communal Penance Services will be noted in parish publications.

Sacramental Program

Children who enter the First Reconciliation/First Communion Program should have completed Level 1 (Grade 1), attend Mass weekly, and know the basic prayers of the Church.

First Reconciliation

Children are prepared for their First Reconciliation during the first semester of Level 2 (Grade 2).

Parents are asked to attend one meeting on Reconciliation where the program is introduced, books for home use are given out, and the procedure for Reconciliation is explained.

*Students in grades 3, 4, or 5 who have not been in a program to prepare for Reconciliation should call the religious Education Office and participate in this program.

First Communion

Children are prepared for their First Communion during the second semester and after the First Reconciliation Program is completed.

Parents are asked to attend two meetings on the Eucharist.  At the first meeting the Sacrament of the Eucharist is explained, books for home use are distributed, the program is outlined, and families sign up for the First Communion Mass they wish to attend.  The second meeting explains the ceremony as it will take place, as well as the special review day for students - "Celebrating the Eucharist", and the final details of the First Communion Day.

*Students in grades 3, 4, or 5 who have not yet received their First Communion should call the Religious Education Office and make arrangements to participate in this program.

NOTE: Students in Middle School or High School who have not received First Reconciliation or First Communion should contact their Director who will set up special classes with Fr. Cesar.

Anointing of the Sick

Every First Saturday, the Anointing of the Sick is celebrated at the 8:30 a.m. Mass. Individuals may ask to receive the sacrament, also. Please call the parish office to make arrangements.
